Chiropractic Training Video

In North Carolina, to become a chiropractor you need a bachelor’s degree to start. Usually a bachelor of science in either human biology or zoology, or the like. It’s the base. Next it is on to advanced degrees, the training for which is very similar to medical school. In fact, medical doctors and chiropractors go through the same courses and course of treatment for the first six years or so.

The education of a chiropractor doesn’t end with chiropractic school, however, once you’ve gotten your license you’re required in every state to have continuing education credit, and most chiropractors who really want to be the best that they can be, continue their education. Learning what the new things are that are out there that to offer the latest in treatments available to the widest variety of patients.

What type of training do chiropractors have to attend? (Dr. Baldy) When I was a chiropractor, what we typically do is go and get a bachelor of science in human biology. That entails your anatomies, your physiologies and that type of thing. It’s the base, much like the medical doctors. We all go through the same courses, the same course of treatment for about the first six years. (Dr. Ransone) It’s very similar to medical school, you’re going to do your pre-requisites, so you can take any undergrad courses that you want. In North Carolina, you need a bachelor’s degree. I chose bachelors in zoology, pre-med at State just to go ahead and get ready for the courses, and then you go to a five year study of chiropractic care, and you pass all the national boards you’re good to go. (Dr. Krasnov) Education of a chiropractor really doesn’t end with chiropractic school, once you’ve gotten your license which you have to acquire in every state that you practice, and there are license exams as well to pass, and national board exams, but you’re required in every state to have continuing education credit, and most chiropractors who really want to be the best that they can be, do continue their education. They always want to learn more, see what’s state of the art, what the new thinking is about previous treatment methods, and rehabilitation methods, and of course all of those things are always evolving so you need to continue your education to stay at the forefront. It’s something that I enjoy doing, and I know my colleagues in our group continue their education because they like to stay up with the latest techniques and methods of treatment. (Dr. Presas) We have a good relationship with all of the other doctors that are Chiropractic Partners, so we get to go there and talk about cases, and so I think that is the best way of seeing how someone else handled different things and different situations, and then you go get yourself educated as much as you can. It’s not just the schooling, but it’s going for the continuing education, learning what the new things are that are out there that you can use to get back patients back on track and better faster.
