What Is Low Level Laser Therapy?

Low level laser therapy, sometimes called LLLT, is a type of alternative treatment that uses a low power laser or, in some cases, a light-emitting diodes device. It moves across the surface of the skin in the area of pain or inflammation. This causes the user no pain, but it does create a cellular reaction within the tissues of the body. It is that treatment that helps to encourage natural healing within the body. Keep in mind that low level laser therapy is not an invasive procedure. There’s no downtime and there is no scarring or damage to the skin.

The user will lay on a bed while we use a handheld device passed over the skin. The light energy from that device will penetrate into the layers of the skin until it reaches the specific area of concern – generally a muscle group. Then, the laser’s energy is absorbed into the tissues there and interacts with the light sensitive elements within your body’s cells. This is much like the same process that occurs in photosynthesis. You feel nothing, but in many ways, the interaction creates a significant improvement in the way your body’s cells.

When Can Cold Laser Therapy Help You?

Cold lasers, also called low level laser therapy, works to help many people facing a variety of ailments and pain conditions. It is often beneficial to those who are struggling with sports injuries, back pain, whiplash, and much more. When you come in to see your chiropractors in Raleigh, we’ll provide a thorough examination and then provide a comprehensive diagnostic screening to determine what treatment options are best for your unique situation. Our goal is to create a customized treatment plan that may include the use of low level laser therapy.

We recommend this treatment for those who are experiencing pain and discomfort whether it is chronic or acute. In addition, we offer a wide range of other treatments that can work to further stimulate the healing process. We may couple laser therapy along with chiropractic care.
